Family is a key theme throughout the curriculum and is explored from different perspectives across year levels. The family is the primary care group during the Early Years and an essential part of a child’s developing identity. As children grow and their world expands to encompass community, the family is the safe base a child returns to.
Each family is different and children need to recognize their family in the stories they read so their sense of identity grows strongly. As our understanding and acceptance of the structure of family units grow, our continuing focus within society is the similarities that create family bonds.
My Family big book and notes will help you introduce and extend your conversation with children and families about who they are and how they are valued within your learning community.
